Reflections

4/28/24

I would like to congratulate all our second graders who will be making their First Holy Communion on Sunday April 28 at 10:30 Mass. It is always encouraging to me to see the awe and wonder in the eyes of our children who are making their First Communion. It’s a reminder to me to make sure I don’t take receiving Jesus in the Eucharist at each Mass for granted.

I want to remind all of our parents that the Church states that you are the primary teachers of your children in the faith. It’s the job of the priest, deacon, and community to support you but not replace you. Church attendance can be a challenge with all the commitments your families have, but I encourage you to make church attendance a priority.

You may not feel it, but even when you come to church when you don’t really feel like it, you receive graces. If we wait until the perfect opportunity comes along with our schedules, families, our health and so forth to come to church, there would probably be nobody in church. Sometimes we have to “fake it until we make it” like my Dad used to say about doing things that are good for us even when we don’t want to.

I will be celebrating 15 years of being ordained as a Deacon on May 2, 2024. I’m not sure where the time went but it as been an amazing experience. I want to thank everyone at Our Lady of Guadalupe for your desire to be a part of this parish and work in our respective ministries in order for OLG to thrive and not just survive.

Thank you for all your hard work.

In Jesus’ love,
Deacon Dave Govern

VBS 2024

Send your kids on a splash-tastic adventure!

At Scuba VBS, kids dive into friendship with God! Scuba is filled with awesome Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, and touch! Hands-on science experiments, team-building games, unforgettable Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities that help faith flow into real life.

(Since everything is hands-on, kids might get a little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes and sturdy shoes.)

Plus, we’ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life—something we call God Sightings. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot!
